Estefanía Vidal Montero is an anthropological archaeologist interested in exploring the material histories of technological projects. Located at the intersection of theories of materiality, feminist scholarship, and post-colonial theory, her research focuses on the various ways in which bodies, technologies, and collective experiences become entangled in the creation of places in past societies. Her fieldwork is situated in the Southern Andes (Atacama Desert), where she has been investigating the sociality of architectural practices involved in the construction of villages during the Formative period (ca. 500 BCE-500 CE). She earned her PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago in 2021. She teaches classes on anthropology and architecture, materiality, and social theory.
