Laura Cremer is a teaching fellow in the Social Sciences Division. She is a historian of modern Europe and the United States with a focus on the history of science and medicine. Her dissertation, “Heralds of Health: Selling the Nature Cure, From Germany to the United States, 1880-1960,” examines how popular health-related beliefs and practices spread outward from German central Europe between the late 19th and the mid-20th century to become an influential part of the modern medical, cultural, political, and economic landscape internationally, particularly in the United States. The project critically examines the view of “nature” implicit in contemporary beliefs about “natural” living and integrates approaches from cultural history and business history into this story about the development of a modern health movement. 

Cremer received her PhD from the University of Chicago in 2026.
