Hannah Park is a Teaching Fellow in History at the University of Chicago, with interests in twentieth-century Korean diaspora, migration and the family, postcolonial nation-building, and Cold War divides. Her dissertation, “Writing Home, Writing Hope: Epistolary Kinship Across Korea’s Divided Diasporas,” focuses on the making of kinship and the articulations of hope in the epistolary writing of diasporic Korean families. She demonstrates how the epistolary space was a material, textual medium through which the authors sought to not only transcend their sense of alienation but also transform the sociopolitical, economic, and/or cultural conditions that restricted their mobility. Her work has been supported by grants and fellowships from the Korea Foundation, the Korean Collections Consortium of North America, and the Center for East Asian Studies and the Department of History at the University of Chicago.
