Crossing Disciplinary Boundaries Conference (Sept 27-28) Invites Faculty and PhD Students

For the second year, graduate students across the social science have organized a conference for faculty and fellow students in the social sciences. The event, which will be Thursday, September 27, and Friday, September 28, will provide opportunities to discuss work in progress, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary projects.

“Collaborating across disciplinary boundaries is difficult, communicating is not. Big questions in social sciences are shared across disciplines. These conversations can help scholars strengthen their own research by thinking about the insights that other disciplines have brought to bear on their questions,” said Yuna Blajer de la Garza, a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science and one of the student co-organizers.

In addition to multiple workshop sessions in which doctoral students will present, followed by discussion led by a faculty member from another discipline, two keynote talks will be offered. The first, on Thursday at 8:30 AM, will be by Glen Weyl, Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research and Princeton University, on “Radical Political Economy.” The second, on Friday at 12:45 PM, will be by Steven Pincus, the Thomas E. Connelly Professor of British History and the College, on “Thinking the Empire Whole.”

The conference is supported by the Division of the Social Sciences and the Department of Sociology.
