Student Grants and Fellowships
CMES students have the opportunity to access a variety of grants and fellowships through the Center and the University of Chicago. As a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship-granting institution, CMES enables its students to gain firsthand expertise on the Middle East and its languages. Since 2010, 193 of our students have earned FLAS Fellowships, 38 have received Fulbright IIE and Fulbright-Hays Awards, and 8 have earned Boren Fellowships, enabling them to pursue intensive study of critical languages and gain regional expertise abroad in the Middle East and/or at the University of Chicago.
A variety of Fulbright programs support students at all levels of undergraduate and graduate education. Students apply through UChicagoGRAD.
Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA)
CASA provides intensive, advanced training in Arabic. Students apply through a competitive selection process. Applicants should contact CMES to arrange proctoring of the CASA selection exam.
