Applications for Autumn 2027 are now open. 

Application Requirements 

All applicants must submit the following materials:

•    Online master’s program application
•    Transcripts for all previous degrees and coursework
•    Resume or CV
•    Two letters of recommendation from professors or mentors
•    Personal statement outlining your interest in pursuing a master’s degree at UChicago
•    Statement of academic purpose discussing your interest in the particular program to which you are applying
•    Academic writing sample (10-15 pages)
•    $90 non-refundable application fee

Additionally, applicants to the graduate schools and divisions of the University of Chicago, regardless of citizenship, must either meet one of our waiver criteria or submit proof of English language proficiency. 

Please note that the Division of Arts and Humanities does not require or accept GRE scores.

Although the program is designed for full-time students, part-time study options are available. Please contact us if you have questions about part-time enrollment.

Additional Application Requirements
BA/MA

Students in The College may be eligible to participate in a BA/Master of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies degree. Please refer to The College website for more information about the application process.
