Urban Design with Nature
A rapidly urbanizing world presents significant challenges to sustainable and resilient urban design. How can cities simultaneously provide equitable access to resources, minimize environmental degradation, and stimulate economic opportunity? This course uses the City of Chicago as a laboratory for evaluating the social, environmental, and economic costs and benefits of alternative forms of what could be termed the “sustainable community.” Students evaluate alternative sites and create their own proposals for building healthy, equitable, sustainable communities.
