Doctoral Certificate

As an interim step to designing the Ph.D. program in dialogue with the new colleagues who will join RDI over the next five years, RDI will launch a certificate program for Ph.D. students currently enrolled in other departments across the University.

In Winter 2025 and Spring 2025, RDI will run its inaugural graduate two quarter proseminar sequence. The proseminar will be a requirement for the doctoral certificate, which we expect to offer beginning in Autumn 2025. In addition to allowing UChicago doctoral students to both benefit from RDI in a credentialed capacity and to build intellectual and social communities for those working on race, indigeneity, and diaspora across departments and divisions, the certificate program will also be crucial in implementing curricular structures eventually serving the doctoral program.

Please note that as of February 1, 2024, certificate specifics and launch timeline are pending Dean and Office of the Provost approval, and this page will be updated accordingly.
