CLACS creates intellectual infrastructure making scholarship visible across departments, with more than 70 faculty affiliates and 19 departments/disciples represented within the CLACS community of scholars. It helps students find faculty and courses. It brings visiting scholars into the classroom. It supports graduate field research. It creates public programs that connect the University to Chicago’s hemispheric communities. It gives Latin Americanist and Caribbeanist work a durable home. The Center’s reach is substantial.

CLACS creates the setting in which a student studying migration can encounter demography, law, history, and public policy; where a scholar of Indigenous art can speak with anthropologists, art historians, and community partners; where work on authoritarianism can be studied through political science, archives, literature, and field work.
