Edward L. Shaughnessy's Tsinghua Warring States Bamboo Manuscripts: Studies and Translations Recognized

Lorraine J. and Herrlee G. Creel Distinguished Service Professor in Early Chinese Studies, and Director of Graduate Studies, East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Edward L. Shaughnessy's translation project, The Tsinghua Warring States Bamboo Manuscripts: Studies and Translations has been awarded the highest level of Chinese national government support for published work in the form of the "Fourteenth Five-Year National Important Publication Plan" (十四五国家重点出版物出版规划增补项目).​  

This project is intended to produce 18 volumes of translations of bamboo-slip manuscripts in the collection of Tsinghua University. The manuscripts are from the fourth century BCE, and run the gamut from works on history, literature, classics, mantic texts, and other genres.  The project will help scholars at home and abroad to understand the Tsinghua manuscripts, to expand the international influence of the Tsinghua manuscripts and Chinese unearthed documents, and to promote exchange and mutual learning among world civilizations.
