Social Sciences Computing Services

Graduate students in a Psychology lab discuss spreadsheet data

Social Sciences Computing Services (SSCS) provides specialized services for social scientists researching data-intensive, and privacy-sensitive fields, offering  access to a number of in-house statistical and analytic tools. In addition, SSCS supports long-term secure storage and makes available personalized support for research staff.

The SSCS maintains internal teams that partner with researchers to provide access to computational resources. Researchers needing access to advanced analysis tools will find holistic assistance in our Research Support Group.  This group draws on an experienced, capable, and dedicated staff to support large-scale computation and advanced data storage on a variety of platforms. The group also provides on-boarding support to new research initiatives and can act as a liaison, matching research needs with available resources from on-campus partner organizations such as the Research Computing Center as well as other non-University resources.

Faculty and staff in the Division also receive support from our Operations Support Team for desktop applications and hardware. This group aids in the setup of new computers, printers, and mobile devices as well as general consulting about other personal computing needs. In addition, the SSCS provides access to cluster computing through the Acropolis and Midway Clusters and provides secure UNIX shell accounts through Server Computing.
