University of Chicago's Women's Board Grants Fund

University of Chicago's Women's Board

Each January, the Women's Board announces a formal request for funding proposals which is disseminated to the University system. Students and Faculty are invited to submit grant proposals in March. A new Women's Board Grants Committee is convened each spring, by the Chair of the Board, to represent the Women's Board in determining grant recipients. The committee reviews all proposals received over the course of several weeks and determines finalists. In late April, over the course of two days, the committee hears presentations given by finalists. Using pre-set criteria to determine the value of each grant proposal, the committee undergoes a rigorous deliberation period to decide where funding will be allocated. Grant awards are announced in June of each year and grant monies are paid out in the January of the following year. Many projects funded by the Women’s Board are early stage and the seed money provided by the Board is critical to their advancement.

The Women's Board requires a divisional process of review and endorsement, in the form of a letter from the Dean, to accompany all submissions. Therefore, the Division's deadline for written proposals will be Friday, February 16th. SSD faculty interested in applying for this opportunity should contact June Hou, Senior Associate Director of Research Development at or (773) 702-5167 as soon as possible to discuss the proposed project. June will assist with proposal development and will serve as a liaison between you, the Dean's Office, and the Women's Board throughout the process.
