SocTea Returning to the Division in 2018-2019
For many years, faculty and students in the Division of the Social Sciences gathered in the Tea Room on the second floor the Social Science Research Building for coffee, tea, and desserts. The then-daily “SocTea” was a beloved tradition and, through support from the Dean’s Office, will be returning once per month, beginning Wednesday, October 3.
“I am struck by the fondness alumni express for the SocTea tradition. Reinstituting this event, will, I hope, add strength to the connections across faculty and students, and across disciplines, that are a foundation for our academic community,” said Amanda Woodward, dean of the division and the William S. Gray Distinguished Service Professor in psychology.
The 2018-2019 SocTeas will be held on October 3, November 7, December 5, January 9, February 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, and June 5, from 4:00-5:30 in the SSRB Tea Room.
David Coleman, manager of the division’s auxiliary service center, helped to organize the SocTeas when he joined the Division of the Social Sciences 28 years ago, and will be again the lead on arranging refreshments.
“The SocTea was a gathering place for members of every part of the division. It had been happening for more than 10 years when I started, and it’s wonderful to see it returning,” said Coleman.
Faculty and PhD students are encouraged to attend. No RSVP is required.
