Decoding the Complexity of Urban Trauma Symposium

This symposium brings together urban scholars from diverse disciplines from across the University of Chicago campus as we collectively prepare for the challenges and opportunities represented by the creation of the new Adult Trauma Center.

The two symposia will include brief presentations by 3 or 4 faculty experts from varied disciplines followed by a moderated conversation including them and the audience. Lunch will be provided.

Symposium 1, 9:15am - 10:45am: A panel on urban trauma, featuring Doriane Miller, Margaret Beale Spencer, Gary An, Dexter Voisin, and Royce Lee.

Symposum 2, 11:00am - 12:30pm: A panel on themes related to structural violence featuring Selwyn Rogers, Herschella Conyers, Micere Keels, and Brad Stolbach.

Two panel discussions will be followed by a 12:30 screening of PTSD: Beyond Trauma by filmmakers Andrea Schmidt and Patrick Reed. Q&A to follow with filmmakers and film subjects, survivors of childhood trauma who have participated in Healing Hurt People and Project FIRE.
