Charles E. Bidwell (1932–2016) Memorial Service

A service in memory of Charles E. Bidwell will be held in Bond Chapel on Friday, January 6th, 2017, at 3:30 pm. A reception will follow in the Common Room of Swift Hall, which is adjacent to Bond Chapel. All members of the university community, friends, family, and the public are invited to attend. Charles, AB’50, MA’53, PhD’56, served as both chair and professor, first in the Department of Education, and later in the Department of Sociology.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our Emeritus Professor Paul Friedrich on August 11, 2016. As a poet, anthropologist, and linguist, he left a wide range of exceptional publications on language. His memorial service on campus will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016 in Bond Chapel.

The John U. Nef Committee on Social Thought announces a public lecture by Joel Isaac, Senior Lecturer in the History of Modern Political Thought at the University of Cambridge, and a fellow of Christ’s College, entitled "The Jumble: Local Knowledge and Universal History in the Thought of Clifford Geertz."

University Convocation

The 527th Convocation will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 9:15 a.m., and will be held outdoors (rain or shine) on the University’s Main Quadrangle. This is a university-wide ceremony and all candidates participate in this ceremony, during which the President will verbally confer degrees to groups of candidates by degree type and academic program.  Tickets are not required for this ceremony.
