Teaching Fellow in the Social Sciences

Shilin Jia received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Department of Sociology in 2022. His research interest lies in applying computational methods to studies of politics, culture, and organizations. Jia has spent years analyzing job transfers of communist party elites in China and the party’s rhetorical change during the country’s great economic transformation. He has also recently started working on building comparable word embedding models from more than one hundred years of Google Books across multiple languages. The goal of that project is to study changes in international perceptions of identities. Jia is an MA Teaching Fellow in Computational Social Science.
