Teaching Fellow in the Social Sciences

Pedro Alberto Arroyo is a postdoctoral Social Sciences Teaching Fellow in the Department of Sociology and the College. Arroyo uses computational methods to examine public discourse related to political authority and group identity. His dissertation examines British party manifestos to map the political discourse surrounding the 2014 Scottish independence referendum and the 2016 Brexit vote. By identifying where the discourse splinters and congeals, the study demonstrates that moments of high conflict can also serve to re-enforce bridging political frames.

Arroyo has experience overseeing students' research at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Public Policy major and MACSS program, respectively. His areas of interest include organizational analysis, sovereignty and inter-state interactions, and the development of shared frames. A former middle school teacher, Arroyo holds a BA in sociology from Tufts University, a Masters of Education from Boston University, and a PhD in sociology from UChicago.
