David Nirenberg, Professor of History and the College, is the eighth bearer of the Historian Prize of the City of Münster. The Prize, which has been awarded since 1981, recognizes a prominent work of historiography. For the 2017 selection, the jury unamimously chose Nirenberg's Anti-Judaism: A History of Western Thought, lauding it as both "remarkably readable" and rigorously researched. In Anti-Judaism, Nirenberg argues that anti-Semitism has colored Western culture from antiquity to the present, albeit in shifting forms.
