Anthropology professor Susan Gal receives faculty excellence award

Mae & Sidney G. Metzl Distinguished Service Professor of Anthropology, of Linguistics, and of Social Sciences in the College, Susan Gal has been selected to receive a 2013-2014 Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentoring. This award honors faculty members for their achievements in classroom teaching and for their special contributions in encouraging the work of graduate students. Her nomination received an impressive number of letters from her current and former graduate students who attested to and praised the wide-ranging breadth and penetrating depth of her classes, the unselfish commitment of her time in advising and mentoring students, and her enthusiasm both for her own work and that of her students.

The award will be presented to her at the Spring Quarter Convocation on Saturday, June 14, 2014, during the Division of the Social Sciences Diploma and Hooding Ceremony. That ceremony will take place at 2:15 p.m. at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel.
