Alumni of the Division of the Social Sciences have always been leaders in shaping the ways knowledge is produced — not only in the academy but also in corporations and not-for-profits around the globe. Check in on the latest news from faculty, graduate students, and alumni by reading Dialogo, the Stories section of this site, or following us on Twitter. The generosity of alumni and friends of the Divison of the Social Sciences makes possible the groundbreaking research and teaching of Chicago’s social scientists. Gifts to the Division support graduate students, fund world-changing research, allow us to recruit and retain the most outstanding faculty, and help advance the social sciences in countless other ways. To find out how you can contribute, see Why Give.
Our alumni and friends provide resources necessary for the Division of the Social Sciences to realize its mission of research and education. Gifts of any size have an impact, directly supporting our faculty and students. The division benefits from annual unrestricted gifts to the Dean’s Fund as well as from specific contributions directed toward a particular interest.
The Dean’s Fund for the Social Sciences is the primary source to launch most Divisional initiatives and allows us to explore creative new ways to support our graduate students as professionals and leaders. The Dean’s Fund makes it possible for Dean David Nirenberg to develop a highly interactive, transparent, and communicative relationship with the Division’s faculty, students, alumni, and friends by providing opportunities to interact and organize projects on behalf of the common good. In short, the Dean’s Fund supports most of what is innovative, risky, regenerating, and collective, and it is the primary lever to generate larger grants and other funds necessary to sustain the Division.
A robust Dean’s Fund is not an afterthought; it is the sine qua non for everything we hope to accomplish to establish a strong infrastructure and a stimulating culture for social science at the University of Chicago in the 21st century.
There are several ways to make your gift to the social sciences including donations of cash, gifts of securities, and by taking advantage of your employer’s matching gifts program.
