GRE

The GRE General Test is required of all applicants for admission. We do not require or accept Subject Tests for admission in any of our departments. The University of Chicago’s institutional code for ETS is 1832; we will receive scores sent to any department code.

Review committees expect strong scores across every section of the exam, and a high GRE score is an important component of a competitive application. GRE scores cannot be older than five years from the exam date. UChicago does not have a minimum, average, or cut-off score requirement.

It can take up to 8 weeks for official GRE scores to reach our office from ETS. Applications that do not have a complete set of scores and percentages at the time of review will be considered incomplete and will be reviewed as such. If your application is reviewed without GRE scores, you will be unable to matriculate without official GRE scores on file. In the case of an applicant having taken multiple tests, the overall best test date is used for review purposes.
