The deadline to apply to receive a degree at Summer quarter is Friday, June 23 at 3:00 pm. Students who do not complete the Online Application for Degree in the My Academics section of my.uchicago by the deadline will not receive a degree Summer quarter. Please e-mail with questions about the degree application process.

Students may cancel their degree application by contacting their department administrator. Summer quarter 2017 degree applications must be canceled by Friday, July 21, to avoid the $50 Degree Cancellation Fee. Any students who are removed from the convocation list after that deadline will be assessed the Degree Cancellation Fee at the end of the quarter.

Simply changing the Expected Graduation Date will NOT cancel a degree application. Students must inform their departments that they will not graduate. A new Application for Degree must be completed via myUChicago at the beginning of the quarter in which the student plans to graduate.

Although students may graduate at the end of Autumn, Winter, Spring, or Summer quarters, the University only holds a convocation ceremony at the end of Spring quarter in June. Students who graduate in Summer, Autumn, or Winter quarter are invited back to participate in convocation the following Spring quarter.

Spring convocation is on the final Saturday of Spring quarter. The University-wide morning ceremony is held outside on the Main Quadrangle at 9:15 a.m. No guest tickets are required. Seating is plentiful and allotted on a first-come, first-seated basis. The Division of the Social Sciences also has a lunch for degree candidates and their guests in Ida Noyes Hall from noon to 1:30 p.m. The Divisional Diploma and Hooding ceremony follows inside Rockefeller Chapel at 2:15 p.m. This is there ceremony where students' names are called and their diplomas are handed to them. No tickets are required for the lunch of the Diploma and Hooding ceremony, and graduates may invite as many students as they wish.

Summer Quarter graduates are invited to the Division's Summer Degree Celebration on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. in Ida Noyes Hall. The inaugural Summer Degree Celebration will include food and drinks, live music, a short program, and the opportunity for students to pickup their diploma. Students can request four tickets - one for themselves, and three for guests. Summer Quarter graduates will also be invited back to participate in Spring quarter convocation the following June.
